The Leftist Cycle of Intellectual Poverty

A smarter feller than myself once said that “Every great cause begins as a movement, becomes a business, and eventually degenerates into a racket" (Hoffer).

However, our president is an exception to the rule, being that the Biden crime family began as a political racket, only to degenerate into the great cause of wokeism, identity politics, and "equity."

In fact, the tension in the left is between the racketeers and fanatics. Old school grifters like the Clintons never believed the left's BS, whereas the new generation of howling fanatics really does.

These latter have spent their whole lives macerated in leftism, from the kindergarten of preschool to the kindergarten of college, and really believe their own nonsense. Truly, it is the organizing principle of their lives, and functions exactly like a religion. An especially exhausting religion.

Which is why no rational conversation is possible with these perverts. Disagreement with them isn't, like, just your opinion, man, but heresy, blasphemy, sacrilegious. It is over the line. Mark it zero. You're cancelled!

One of the ontological differences between left and right is that the former project agency and causation into the environment, while the latter experience the locus of control on the inside.

You could say that this goes to the metaphysics of victimhood, in that the victim is by definition the passive subject of someone else's actions (or of some magical system such as  "structural racism," a leftist godwhistle that only the devout can hear).

Now, auto-victimization is obviously tempting, much more so if one is a loser. If you are a loser, then you have -- I suppose -- three main possible explanations, 1) you're just a loser, so deal with it, 2) it's someone else's fault that you're such a loser, or 3) bad luck. It takes a strong man to acknowledge options (1) and (3). But you are a loser, so naturally you'll gravitate to door #2. It's why the left was invented.

In short, "the frustrated favor radical change. The tendency to look for all causes outside ourselves persists even when it is clear that our state of being is the product of personal qualities such as ability, character, appearance, and so on" (Hoffer).

Indeed, Hoffer quotes an insultaining remark by Thoreau to the effect that "If anything ail a man," then "he forthwith sets about reforming -- the world."

You could say that this is Marx's eternal formula: I am a loser, therefore overturn the order of the whole durned thing.

"It us understandable," writes Hoffer, "that those who fail should incline to blame the world for their failures." But the tech overlords and woke capitalists who sponsor the Democrat party aren't exactly losers (at least in the financial sense). Why do they support and propagate this aberrant nonsense?

I can think of two main reasons, 1) power, and 2) envy insurance. The first is self-evident, while the second was discussed in the previous post, was it not? A wealthy celebrity or journalist is just a loser who got lucky, and on some level they know it.

It's uncomfortable to be the subject of envy, so it is deflected by embracing leftism and projecting greed into us. This act of magical misdirection redirects the envy of the mob toward greedy and hateful deplorables, insurrectionists, white people, etc.  This ends in the ridiculous spectacle of fabulously lucky losers such as Michelle Obama or Colin Kaepernick blaming us for their bitter lives.

I guess it's flattering to be seen as having so much power over these people. And yet, the left has the power to cancel anyone at any time.

About the religious structure of the left, Hoffer notes that "Every mass movement is in a sense a migration -- a movement toward a promised land."

Boy and how! For life itself is a vertical adventure toward a promised land, except the left horizontalizes this into literal state of affairs that can be realized in this life. Apocalypse now.

Not only is this impossible, but it aggravates the very conditions that prompt the flight to utopia. Every leftist "solution" leaves a train of problems that provide the pretext for new solutions. Call it the cycle of intellectual poverty.

Why does the left hate freedom? It goes back to loserhood:

Freedom aggravates at least as much as it alleviates frustration. Freedom of choice places the whole blame of failure on the shoulders of the individual.

It "is at the root of their discontent," for "unless a man has the talents to make something of himself," the freedom to do so is just the certainty of failure. Thus, just as the left practices a "repressive tolerance" in which mere tolerance isn't tolerated, so too does it help its dependents be free of freedom.

Now, what are we supposed to do with the left side of the bell curve? Obviously, no amount of legislation or social planning can eliminate the lower half of any quality, whether it is intelligence, creativity, income, looks, talent, whatever. And very few people are in the upper or lower half of every quality. Most everyone is good or bad at this or that.

This gets into a large subject, but a good start would be minding your own isness and not comparing yourself to other people, because if you do, you'll always feel like the good Lord gypped you. Aw, fuck it, man. Lets go bowling.

Yep. The benefit of this, too, is that when you understand yourself better, you can learn how to use your own strengths and weaknesses to best advantage.

I suppose there's a converse of this as well, since it is possible also to compare ourselves to others and finding ourselves "superior" in some quality or other, we run the risk of getting high on our own supply, so to speak.

I actually travel in both leftist and conservative circles. Probably because I'm a half-breed. I believe in progressive policies which enhance national prestige and power, yet at the same time, despise illegal immigration which does the opposite. So maybe I'm actually a nationalist? I see how places like Japan, Germany and China do it, and how the USA once did it, and think: "Hey, why cant we do all that again?"

Anyways, I've noticed that concerns over a surveillance state is far more prevalent on the left. The same can be said about the right but this all changes whenever Muslims or GOP presidents are involved. It's a bit like Tea Parties shutting down after Trump got elected even though he expanded the national debt more than Obama ever did.

But this isn't about all that. This is about trying to revive Christianity.

I run into losers all the time. Me, I've always been good at everything I do. Plus I'm a strong and attractive white male. Plus I'm a millionaire. Yet I don't know how to proselytize to the less fortunate. I keep getting that mental image of Dr. Tyrell telling Roy Batty to just "revel in his time", and then getting his skull crushed with eyes gouged out.

Does anybody know how to successfully (and safely) proselytize to the majority of folks who are well, losers?

Much like in Islam, for leftists the punishment for apostasy is now death.

Mind your own isness

Not likely a bumper sticker that would make anyone rich, but it would give me pleasure thinking of looking in the rear view mirror at every stop sign to see if anyone is looking confused.

Come on, Julie. Mike Pence got way more death threats. Plus his CPAC straw poll approval rating was 1%. I sure hope he doesn't lose his faith.

julie said...

Randos making death threats to famous people on the internet is not a new or notable occurrence. Get back to me when a conservative journalist gets an editorial approved and published in a legit newspaper in which the journalist himself promises to kill Mike Pence.

So Gagdad, let's get this straight. Each of us should mind our own business. Yet in this post aren't you taking each woke person's inventory?

Please explain how the opinions expressed in this post and the many thousands that went before it reinforce the concept of minding your own "isness." Are you trying to mess with us? Are you the world champion gas-lighter?

And further, where is the fun in being silent about the faults of others? What has that ever done for anyone? Absurd.

Talking about other people and putting them down is as old as time. Only confirmed Yogins and devout Christians refrain. They have other fish to fry and don't need that kind of stimulation.

As for me I'm a rampant troll, so I will be dishing for the foreseeable future and if you would be honest for a moment Bob, so will you.

Julie, to be honest, I had never heard of Congressman Jeff Van Drew of New Jersey or John McCall of the Ocean City Sentinel.

Maybe that’s because the liberal media (which is actually in the business of selling Progressive and State-Farm Insurance) has neglected such? So I went to Fox News (of Liberty Mutual and My Pillow) and did find a video.

Thanks for reminding me why I cut the cable TV cord. While I do sometimes miss both Fox and MSNBC, having to pretend to be a Fox Newsie for this guy and an MSNBC newsie for that guy became far too complicated. Imagine my embarrassment when I lost track of who's what and re-reported the right news to the wrong guy. It's so much easier to just be a good Christian and wish we could all just get along as Americans.

Anonymous said...

Black Hole, it's all about not mandating such (except in cases of incest and rape, and maybe bombing Iran). We can talk about stuff all we want, maybe even chastise The Others, even call them mentally deficient, criminally insane, and demonically possessed. But we can never mandate such things. Except for gayness. And the Space Force and Operation Warp Speed. And home schooling and building The Wall and Locking Her Up. I think that's the list.

julie said...

I haven't voluntarily watched any cable news since the early 2000s, so don't particularly care who gets on what show.

As to wishing we could all just get along, well, so what? Wishes aren't reality.

Anonymous said...

Absolutely correct. It's much more fun to needle the deficient, insane, and possessed. But sometimes, I think we're all being manipulated.

Speaking of bad fads, I just installed a new barn door inside my house. Ridiculously impractical, yet I sure hope it'll impress the neighbors. Could we talk about that instead?

Why, HGTV doesn't have a website with a comment section?

HGTV is one of those materialistic heathen places, chock full of the deficient, insane and possessed. Friendly discussions there typically devolve into political name-calling.

The things people accuse other people of are usually what they are guilty of themselves.

GDB is insanely off the charts grumpy, who knows why. So naturally he will accuse others of being grumpy and dissatisfied.

How many of you out there in reader-land are grumpy and dissatisfied? Not so many I'll wager.

GDB's worst nightmare is waking up one morning and finding everyone in the world happy and getting along.

Wait, what? No, that cannot be! What about all the poor people? How could they be happy?

Yes, how indeed?

And what about all those leftists? How can we be getting along with them? Impossible!

Maybe not. Look within, find the inner grump and then give him whatever he needs to cheer up.

Anon @3/22/2021 03:49:00 PM,

Remember the episode here about Martin Luther? I puzzled a bit after reading that one. In my denomination Martin Luther was considered a great man. He figured out the protestant sweet spot better than even the Pope, and many agreed, especially the Germans.

With that success he turned his attentions to the Jew. How to persuade the Jew to become Lutherans? He puzzled over this and devised many persuasive methods and dutifully implemented these persuasive methods. He loved the Jew. All he ever wanted was what was best for the Jew. But they spurned him. Day after day, then week after week, then months, then years. Then year after year they spurned him.

Luther eventually became so enraged by all the spurning that one might say it drove him mad. I’d tell people he’d became a bad mother… “Shut your mouth”, the people would say. “But we’re talking about Luther!” I’d say back. (back in those days soul-debates were common amongst the colored Lutherans, probably because there was always some background R&B music going on) The people didn’t want to hear that our beloved Martin Luther had closed out his life as a proto-Nazi, maybe even The Proto-Nazi.

Christianity is supposed to be about being chill because you got the stuff, man. Other people see this, even strangers from other races, and they all want to be chill too. People would see the priests and the nuns all hanging out outside the rectory, all bein super chill without a care in the world. And they’d be inspired. “Man,” they’d think to themselves, “they don’t even have a Cadillac. No pimpin clothes, no James Brown records, and only one gold chain and it's a crucifix! Plus they be dressin like penguins.”

Yet deep inside they’d be inspired by all the chillness. They’d give going to mass a chance. Of course, most would see the error of their ways and wind up Lutherans, because R&B choirs are tolerated.

These days, the few priests and nuns still left are always going on about “the left” and how they screwed over Donald Trump. Always going on about how they can’t convert the Jew or the blacks anymore (well they could never convert the Jew, but now even the black.) because of BLM and antifa. Always going on about how it’s only Mexicans showing up in their churches. I think I know why this is happening. But how does one get the good word out to priests and nuns anymore, when they’re always so angry all the time? I would've rather been a Jew trying to convince old Martin Luther.

I guess what I’m saying is that I sure hope this doesn’t happen to us.

Just when you thought white supremacism couldn't get any worse: The white response to climate change is literally suffocating to people of color.

Read that bizarre essay if you want to know what mental illness masquerading as science superimposed on a religious cult sounds like.

julie said...

Wow.

Say "climate" one more time.

Gagdad Bob said...

That might actually be a psychotic level of anxiety, with the "climate crisis" being the only thing holding her together.

julie said...

That's really sad; she should be getting help, and maybe staying off the internet. I'm suddenly reminded of the number of people who post on social media and fill their bios with a long list of mental illnesses - then demand that their mental illness be ignored when clearly it is controlling their entire thought process.

Gagdad Bob said...

Antipsychotic medication is cheaper than anti-racist indoctrination, but the latter is more lucrative.

The philosophy of “just mind your own business” works great, until somebody is able to con a bunch of naïve young men into flying airliners into buildings just because they think the USA didn’t “mind their own business”. I think that’s known as the libertarian perspective. In that world, we all travel back in time to make sure the USA doesn’t meddle in the affairs of Iran and Palestine and Arabians, to the detriment of the citizenry, for whatever reason of any kind… so those naïve young men don’t get conned and bin Laden instead, hires them to build hotels and bridges and stuff.

Gagdad Bob said...

In Islam, minding one's own business is harām.

Anonymous said...

Dang. And I’d hoped that messing with Iraq, Iran, Libya, Palestine, Yemen and Syria were good ideas.

Good Morning Class.

Today's lesson: How greedy white people caused climate change and hurt women and people of color.

Concept #1: The rape of Gaia. Nordic men mined iron and coal, drilled for oil, and developed weapons of mass destruction. The planet was violently entered and exploited. This was a hate crime.

Concept #2: The rape of girls. Institutionalized racism ensures that heavy emissions of carbon by white people leads to young girls of color in third world countries to feel environmentally violated and exploited. This victimization must end and the guilty punished.

Concept #3: Genocide in the Americas: We must realize that Europeans perpetrated genocide against native Americans. This has to be recognized so that native Americans can reclaim their lands and the bison can again run free.

You will be tested on this material, so please memorize.

Thank you, Teacher X

Everything we needed to know we should’ve learned in Kindergarten.

Bully the weaker often enough, and sooner or later one of them will bring a gun to school. Or in my case, simmer until the bully gets his first car and then dump brake fluid over it sometime in the night. He’d shaken me down for candy money back in the day. While the bully was still larger and had more friends to control than I did, I’d grown and had been training and wanted a fight. But a strange thing happened. The bully had made so many enemies over the years that he didn’t know where to retaliate. I’d been off his radar for years and he never even suspected me. I think he took it out on other targets though. I figured this out after the third time I ratfucked the bully and he was clearly harassing a few weak kids. Today the bully is vice president of a small bank in another city.

One of the things I find interesting about the bully mentality, is while being extremely vindictive, they’ll always blame the victim, or just find another victim to blame. One of things I find interesting about victim mentality, is they’ll always blame the bystander, except in my case. I'm an oddball, I'll admit.

Maybe that’s why citizens from those nations I’d mentioned would rather eat each other than go after their bully. Moslems are infamous for eating each other. This seems the solution for me. If you’re gonna bully these little nations, then encourage them to eat each other.

This is why the focus needs to be on solving the problem. Obviously, if it ain’t broke then don’t fix it. But if American greatness is moving to China, then we’ve got a problem which needs fixing, assuming you’re a patriotic Christian.

Put far more simply, it’s not about control over “project agency and causation into the environment” or trying to “locus of control on the inside”. It’s about control over fertile ground. When all you have is wasteland, then most seeds planted in that desert will die.

Diehard conservatives never, ever get that fact. So they always blame the seed for being too (enter judgmental whatever) to grow. Or they blame “the left” for disseminating the idea that the USA has been changed for the worse, by a handful of powerful addicts, when the evidence is everywhere all around them that this has been exactly so.

A very wise psychologist once told me that all seeds want to grow to the best of their abilities. They either just don't know how, or don't know how to protect themselves when they do grow, or simply have no fertile ground in which to germinate.

If you change American government policy back to what it was 60 years ago, then I promise you that “leftism” “wokism” “Clintonism” etc. will only remain the talk of ideological pundits grifting for ad money. Assuming the robots don’t take over.
