Rights for the Victims of Stupidity

I don't like to play the IQ card, but sometimes you have to -- for example, with recalcitrant children or uncomprehending liberals. But I repeat myself.

Although our culture pretends to value intelligence, this is not only a transparent falsehood but an inversion of the reality. Elite liberal institutions such as academia or the MSM are aimed at stupid and/or deranged adolescents, not normal adults.

Have you noticed how many cable channels are beamed into your home, and the number of them that are addressed to your level of intelligence? It always approaches zero. Show me the intelligence to whom Joy Reid speaks, and I will show you an intelligence that, for whatever reason, failed to actualize.

We don't appreciate the gulf that exists between the intelligent and stupid. Perhaps even more destructive is the abyss between the intelligent-and-educated and the intelligent-but-indoctrinated.

The latter are the really dangerous ones, in part because they have just enough intelligence and more than enough obedience to quickly and unreflectively assimilate the indoctrination and then pass it along to the stupid. This is the role of the educational establishment in general and teachers unions in particular. And let's not forget the media.

How can one respect the intelligence of someone who can't even see that Joe Biden is an addle-brained zombie? Is this inability just stupidity? Mass indoctrination? Collective delusion? Negative hallucination?

We are drowning in Dunning-Krugery. But this post is not supposed to be about politics and intelligence; rather, about God and intelligence.

I realize you folks are, like me, just humble dwellers on the threshold of the transdimensional doorway, looking for a few handouts from Petey, but let's face it: if you enjoy reading this blog, and understand what I'm talking about, then you are pretty far to the right side of the Bell Curve, and there's not a damn thing you can do about it.

Not only are you intelligent, but intelligent enough to feel rather eccentric, although not necessarily lonely so long as the proper stimulation is provided.

But you are bored stiff with the sorts of things that engage the interest of people situated to your left, and again, you have to face this fact. In your day-to-day life you don't run into the type of person who would ever read, much less understand, this blog. Rather, you mainly find them here, or in books, or in the vertical world, or in a few other thought spots of the internet.

Like I said, I don't like to play the IQ card, and certainly not the victim card, but c'mon, man! Intelligence has its rights! I'm old enough to remember when it was both respected and respectable, but nowadays you will be canceled for even saying something intelligent, and especially if it is both intelligent and funny. For the left, the latter has been totally off limits since the risible Obama came to town.

I understand the left, and not just because I used to be one of them. Rather, I used to be that stupid as well. For autobiographical reasons I won't get into, my brain remained on the factory setting of ambient liberalism until I was into my 40s, so my intelligence was fine, just not conformed to reality: good enough engine, no steering wheel.

More generally, all the surveys show -- as if it's needed -- that conservatives understand liberalism, while the converse is not true. Which is why they used to just engage in slander, demonization, and projection, whereas now they're just censoring us altogether. They've never been able to answer our arguments, and now they're just being honest about it: no opinion for you!

It's the same with mental illness, by the way. I understand the mentally ill, and not just because I'm a clinical psychologist. More generally, the person who is emotionally well can understand the unwell -- at least in potential -- better than the unwell can understand the well. We can appreciate that he is delusional or hallucinating, while he can't appreciate that we're not.

Having said that, just as there is a "mystery of evil," there can also be a mystery of stupidity and mental illness, because it partakes of the absurd, and absurdity corresponds to the unintelligible, precisely. No one will ever get to the bottom of Keith Olbermann.

Mass culture is aimed squarely at the 100 IQ cohort, and you probably don't hang out with too many of them, although you no doubt encounter them all day long.

You probably haven't done this in ages, but I dare you to turn on the local news for a few minutes. Stupidity can't really radiate. Nevertheless, you can feel it burning your skin.

Alternatively, try watching a press briefing by Jen Psaki. They are fascinatingly stupid and almost mesmerizingly demented -- and yet, not nearly as demented as would be Joe Biden in a press conference spontaneously responding to hostile questions. I would pay for that.

Not only is the left composed of boring lunatics saying tedious things, but they want to ban the intelligent people with interesting ideas. That's where I draw the line.

Stop it!

That was addressed to me.

Again, this post is supposed to be about God and intelligence. Now, consider the gulf between, say, Joel Osteen and Fr. Garrigou. I don't even know anything about the former, except that he's some kind of snake oil handler with a mega-church.

If that were what Christianity is, then obviously no intelligent person would be or could be a Christian. Apparently this type of religiosity corresponds to a certain type of need in a certain type of person, but we are not that person and we don't have those kinds of needs. At all.

Back to the essay on Esoterism as Principle and as Way. It is difficult for me to imagine someone situated to our left on on the Bell Curve understanding these Principles or engaging in this Way, for the same reason I can't imagine such a person performing surgery on my brain.

Just because I won't let you open my skull, that doesn't make you a bad person. Likewise, just because I am not moved by your silly argument, nor does that necessarily make you a bad person. You only become bad when you make it against the law to reject your argument, or censor mine.

We're running out of time, so I'm going to jump ahead to a couple of passages that get right to the point:

"Metaphysical or esoteric doctrine is addressed to another subjectivity than is the general religious message," the latter taking what we might call the false-but-true form of a Joel Osteen or some other midlevel but high income spiritual adventurer. These latter speak "to the will and to passional man," whereas "esoterism speaks to the intelligence and to the contemplative man."

And "only esoteric theses can satisfy the imperious needs for logical understanding that the philosophic and scientific positions of the modern world cause." We'll explain why in the next post.

So there’s this ‘victims of sociopathy’ style blog which caters to supporting gentle folk who’ve been ruined by sociopathic lovers who started out “perfect” but turned out to be pure concentrated evil. Golddiggers, philanderers, spousal abusers… You know what I’m talking about.

So a libertarian was allowed to guest post and proclaimed that libertarianism was the opposite of sociopathy, since all sociopaths want power and control. If you want your lover to be the real thing and not just faking it so they can get at your hard-earned money, then only date libertarians.

So I spoke up and asked; “But what about the part where sociopaths are notorious for wearing deceptive masks? I mean, what keeps them from learning all about libertarian behaviors, so they can fake libertarian behaviors, for the purpose of conning you so they can get at your money?

Nobody has answered me back yet.

Speaking of cable TV channels, anybody remember when Animal Planet was all about animals? Now where am I supposed to send my kids when I want them out of my way? And then there's so many commercials that they lose interest in the actual show and start bothering me again. Maybe they're a bit young yet, but should I try to get them interested in internet porn? I’ve tried giving them Bibles, but getting them to read them is a hard sell. Since cable TV is effectively dead, I don’t know what else to do.

In my household, there is one who often does this. It is excruciating.

Even knowing what Joe Biden is, I'm not sure I could bear watching him sundown through a press conference responding to hostile questions, it seems too much like elder abuse. Though the thought of him spouting off with more gems like "lying, dog-faced pony soldier," or threatening to take someone out and thrash them behind the bleachers is somewhat entertaining.

Hello Dr. Godwin and panel:

In your post you wrote "How can one respect the intelligence of someone who can't even see that Joe Biden is an addle-brained zombie?"

So, not one one of your best posts. You have wandered away from expressing your best self and are again indulging in a lower sentiment. There is no end of it with you, you apparently cannot be purified. You are no spring chicken. It may not be for you in this life to get that done.

We you aware of oft repeating yourself in your posts? Just checking.

Am I to consider you intelligent? Tell me why I might consider you an intelligent fellow.

Thank you in advance,

-Luscious Camel-Toe

re. the Joel Osteens of the world, I find it interesting that the same people who refuse to acknowledge the spiritual hierarchy baked into Catholicism (talking about the form, not the particular persons at any given time) still demand spiritual hierarchy in the sense that they follow a particular pastor or spiritual leader. They don't see that they still have a pope, just not the Pope.

I've been looking for intelligent people with interesting ideas for some time now. And I'm getting old.

I've been to Hollywood, I've been to Redwood, I crossed the ocean for intelligent people with interesting ideas. I've been in my mind, it's such a fine line. That keeps me searching for intelligent people with interesting ideas.

And I'm getting old.

How long? How long?

Ain't nothing wrong with brother Neil. Why, you got a problem? Speak up then.

March 4th. Sure. We all's ready for ya. We is ready.

Hi Julie:

I liked your comment about the Joel Osteens of the world. We all need a spiritual mentor to look up to, someone who does things right, a pathfinder.

The Pope functions marvelously as this spiritual leader; Catholics have always a ready example of an exemplary practitioner of the faith. This is yet another reason why Catholicism is the "Cadillac" of Christian sects. It is the original and most best of them all, and has been in continuous practice for 2000 years. A real go-to.

In other Christian sects you kind of have to make Jesus your leader, which is good although you'll never equal Jesus and you will feel inadequate. If you put your faith in a preacher or pastor, you'll only get your heart broken. These seem to harbor unbearably strong perversions which emerge sooner or later. You will have an epiphany and realize no, you don't wish to be like them. Sorry, just the way it is.

Buddhists usually have a head monk or what have you that can show the beginner the ropes.
Hindus have the classic guru with an established conventional system of spiritual mentorship. It is expected the follower will gravitate to a main teacher.
Islam has the top Mullahs and Imams, very pious and disciplined persons.

For the Generalist, out there blazing their own trail, well...select your teacher from among the wise. Your heart will tell you who it is.

For the maverick, do without a spiritual mentor. Go at it with only the force of your own being. Throw everything at the wall and see what sticks.

For the agnostic, well, they may solace themselves with secular things. We've all done it, and it is OK.

Anon @ 6:09,

Shirley, you can't be serious.

This isn't 4Chan. There are rules. I thought you glowies had more brains than to think that the kind of people reading this blog are the kind to take up their pitchforks and storm the capitol. Shows what I know, I guess.

Irene NYC,

Our host has expressed an interest in intelligent people with interesting ideas. While I’ll certainly never be intelligent, I do have just one interesting idea. I’d like to hook him up with somebody who is intelligent enough to test my interesting idea.

There’s a Youtube channel called ProjectFarm where the owner intelligently tests a variety of interesting products ranging from electric chainsaws to windshield wiper blades. He uses a series of clever and common-sensical scientific methods in order to determine the best product value. For example, he used a 10,000 pound scale to test the shear and tensile strength of wood glues on similar blocks of wood. That test conclusively proved that Flex Glue is preferred by conservatives for the simple reason that they trust Phil Swift more than they do the Elmer's cow.

I’d now like to propose another test for ProjectFarm. It would be a test between men. Spiritual men. Included in my interesting test would be a Catholic pope, a Protestant Jesus, a Buddhist head monk, a Hindu guru, an Islamic Mullah or Imam, a wise generalist, an agnostic playing with secular things, and a maverick playing top gun.

It wouldn’t necessarily be the kind of test where each man gets wired to 20 Amp circuits or hung from testing jigs tied to heavy weights (although someone with my low IQ might find it interesting). It would be a spiritual test, a test for the best. A cross between an NFL combine with bench pressing, long jumping and Wonderlic, and a meditative pray-off. Our man ProjectFarm would judge the results. I grow tired of all this talking smack. It’s time to play.

The fool is scandalized and laughs when he notices that philosophers contradict one other. It is difficult to make the fool understand that philosophy is precisely the art of contradicting without canceling out.

Anonymous said...

It sounds like Nicholas gives equal weight to all philosophers, or at least their equal right to debate with each other. Yet this debate usually includes declaring the others “mentally ill” or “demonically possessed”.

Should ProjectFarm’s philosopher testing include the degree of mental illness or demonic possession? In a better world, as with Flex Glue, inferior and expensive ideologies might still be allowed to carry on albeit with the help of heavy advertisement.

But what if the Left finds out? I’m starting to become concerned for Phil Swift. He seems like a nice guy who doesn't deserve being canceled.

Closer to reality, there are real reasons why scientists abandoned the religion from which their science sprang. And increasingly, humanists as well. IMHO, a critical population mass from those two "types" is required within any tribe to help keep it 'stable'.

julie said...

You do know there are a lot of scientists who are also people of faith, right? I'd trust such a one over those who believe themselves smarter than God any day.

If there is opposition between faith and science, it is only in the mind of the fool who thinks God can be banished just because a man discovered how far the stars are and how small the atom is.

Anonymous said...

Pew says one third of scientists claim Christianity, with another 1/5 believing similarly as one of our anonymii here does, that God is far too mysterious for us materials to be able neatly categorize. Another source said that a hundred years ago it was closer to 80% Christian.

Most atheists I’ve actually paid attention to proclaim that one is actually a fool to banish God, but that waiting for scientific proof seems wiser than blindly believing or banishing. Very few of them “hate God” as they’re often accused, instead saying that since he’s yet to prove any existence to them, “what’s to hate?” A small minority say the God of the Old Testament seems like a such an asshole that if he did indeed prove his existence to them that they’d rather burn in hell as some kind of martyr protest vote or something. Me, if I was them, I’d be worshipping like the dickens. I wouldn’t want to piss off an omnipotent asshole god or find out there are functional universal laws behind god's occasional mean-ish behavior.

Trying to shame atheists or discredit them by quoting Ken Ham or Joel Osteen will only get one mocked. It seems more effective to clearly and simply demonstrate God’s existence through one’s own behavior.

My concern involves otherwise decent spiritualists blindly worshipping obvious BS like Qanon or pink haired prosperity prophets. When I was young only a handful of Christians were into that sort of thing and were usually called loonies.
