As you plant those new seeds, they will help you bear what you have coming to you with grace and equanimity -- they will give you the strength to bear your cross, but you still have to bear it if you want to grow, and equally importantly, understand what's happening to you while you do. Spiritual maturity means re-penting or turning around and accepting responsibility, not obliterating it.

Damn, Bob that one put a lump in my throat. I seem to be taking this very medicine by the tablespoon these days. I haven't posted anything in quite a while, but I haven't missed a post or comments. There is more to say than I have space or words for. I am grateful that you all are here. Blessings to all in this Christmas season. I guess I kind of still harbor an irrational fear of being trucked off to a gulag in North Korea by the PC Gestapo if I was to mention AIDS in such a non-PC context. Thankfully I seem to be losing that fear slowly but surely, thanks in part to this blog and the Kool Koons that inhabit it.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8580258.post-11104233526605521842007-12-22T16:27:00.000-08:002007-12-22T16:27:00.000-08:00I tried to say many of these very same things last...I tried to say many of these very same things last night. In another book, Bolton mentions that one of the spiritually perilous aspects of our day and age is that we can imagine that we are free from the moral consequences of our actions. I immediately thought of how AIDS treatments are causing an alarming return of the very behavior responsible for it.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8580258.post-84969567315793304262007-12-22T14:53:00.000-08:002007-12-22T14:53:00.000-08:00"Someone who lives their life by mindlessly propag..."Someone who lives their life by mindlessly propagating all those bad seeds is essentially a slave to both randomness and fate -- and therefore meaninglessness. In other words, not only are they living "randomly" in the moment, but they are guaranteeing that bad things will keep happening to them in the future that "appear" random."

Yes, like the ballooning numbers of obese and type-2 diabetic folks, who often have other bad karma like high blood pressure, high cholesterol, bad liver enzymes, etc, and, who, if you look at their lifestyles, have significantly contributed to their own coming demise. Yes, they can to a great degree reverse the effects by adopting a less toxic lifestyle, but to some extent, especially if the abuse has a long history, the damage has been done. And yet I seem to hear a lot of these folks clamoring for cures to these conditions and better insurance coverage, like there is some magic bullet that can erase years of abuse to their bodies. It's more of the entitlement mentality and the failure of people to take personal responsibility, which liberalism helps to propagate. And when there are what seem to be great awakenings about health, it more often than not is driven by charlatans spewing out pseudo-science books or bogus drugs, preying upon those of us who truly want to change the gloomy picture of our medical futures ourselves.

I'm not necessarily condemning unhealthy people as immoral or evil; I myself have a few of those very conditions, and my past lifestyle is the biggest reason. I'm just saying, as Bob's stand-in is, that we really have no leg to stand on if we demand that medical science make us better when it is us that is making ourselves sick. In the end, like living spiritually, it comes down to hard work and discipline and pain; there really aren't any shortcuts. But that's how we grow.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8580258.post-8402441990218191642007-12-22T14:02:00.000-08:002007-12-22T14:02:00.000-08:00"It seems to me that the dude can play!"Me too!"It seems to me that the dude can play!"

Me too!juliehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15975754287030568726noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8580258.post-68899871864662841842007-12-22T13:58:00.000-08:002007-12-22T13:58:00.000-08:00There are strange things happening every dayI hear...There are strange things happening every day
I hear music up above my head
Fill me up with your wonder
Give me my rapture today --VanAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8580258.post-83047274750586686582007-12-22T13:54:00.000-08:002007-12-22T13:54:00.000-08:00Diggin' that crazy vibe today...smoooooth.
