Conscious objective to inject toxic and destructive leftist ideology<BR/>2. A byproduct of the great democratization of education that started in the 50's and grew in the 60's where too many prospective students created demand for too many colleges needing too many professors. Many of these students, colleges, and professors were not/are not suited for higher education thus the natural decrease in quality of the students and teachers necessitating or enabling useless fields of 'study' and squeezing out classic higher forms of liberal arts from the Western curriculum. <BR/><BR/>Number 2 probably created the opening for number 1 to be exploited.phil ghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15486481489355451711noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8580258.post-44362353939488599442009-01-17T23:32:00.000-08:002009-01-17T23:32:00.000-08:00Holy cow, I've got a blog. In particular, such instruction would do more for minority youths than all the ‘role model’ diversity sermons on Harriet Tubman, Malcolm X, Montezuma, and Caesar Chavez put together. Nothing so enriches the vocabulary, so instructs about English grammar and syntax, so creates a discipline of the mind, an elegance of expression, and serves as a gateway to the thinking and values of Western civilization as mastery of a page of Virgil or Livy (except perhaps Sophocles’s Antigone in Greek or Thucydides’ dialogue at Melos). After some 20 years of teaching mostly minority youth Greek, Latin, and ancient history and literature in translation (1984-2004), I came to the unfortunate conclusion that ethnic studies, women studies — indeed, anything “studies” — were perhaps the fruits of some evil plot dreamed up by illiberal white separatists to ensure that poor minority students in the public schools and universities were offered only a third-rate education."<BR/>(November 25, 2008) PJMAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8580258.post-84020762874524186932009-01-17T17:39:00.000-08:002009-01-17T17:39:00.000-08:00I'll keep prayin' for ya Joan.
