They all have the money -- and more importantly the connections -- to circumvent the system and get the care they need. This is exactly how it works in Canada. If you're well-off and politically/socially connected you're fine. God help you otherwise -- it's a crapshoot.Stephen Macdonaldhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13474300559219020772noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8580258.post-35700253142833111042010-03-23T05:31:35.915-07:002010-03-23T05:31:35.915-07:00What is the "net/net" of this new health...What is the "net/net" of this new health legislation for the average working American? Well, having lived in multiple countries including (primarily) the US and Canada, I can pretty much tell you what to expect: your healthcare will gradually become mediocre (Canada) to appalling (UK) unless you are truly wealthy (8 figure net worth, or better) in which case it's a non-issue since you can buy what you need, including $1.5M surgeries + medication, etc. in some not-so-extreme cases. Canada attempts to make even this option unavailable (basically wealthy Canadians must fly to the US for advanced care). This legislation doesn't do that -- yet. However it does make the provision of traditional health "insurance" completely impractical, if not impossible. The system will now become socialized. The question is whether it will be a reasonably sane model (France) or just plain horrible (UK NHS). Or worse. There's always worse.Stephen Macdonaldhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13474300559219020772noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8580258.post-73000343635376048492010-03-23T05:11:12.231-07:002010-03-23T05:11:12.231-07:00Van said,

Hold your nose, and get on board. Then get involved and let them know what you want from them. Work on changing the details as you go. Now is not the time to go willy nilly join the libertarians, constitutionalists, or any other wacked third party group. Now is the time to bring them into the fold, hear what they have to say, and get them to pull with us. The effort must be singular and focused, not dissipated and scattered. The Democrat party has become the enemy. They are no less inimical to the Union than the communists, or islam. They must be scorched from the political landscape. Slashed and burned out of power. Their guttersnipe pandering pimps in Hollywood, the television networks, and newspapers must pay the price as well. Kill your TV. Burn the Newspaper. Fuck the movie theaters.
