Whatever

I hate to sound like an old crank, but the truth of the matter is I can't stand all the made-up holidays. Just give me the real ones, starting with Christmas and Easter, Thanksgiving and the Fourth of July, and maybe Memorial and Labor Days, just to frame the summer.

But assuming you're more than a sperm donor, you're supposed to father. What's the alternative, abandon your child? Sets the bar pretty low, IMO.

Besides, you can hardly call yourself a father without a son around to hit and bite the water balloons. I'd look pretty silly standing up there by myself dropping them off the house.

Your son's smile speaks volumes about your fathering. Happy Father's Day you crank :).

Yea, I'm with you on this. And what's up with "Presidents Day" like they were all good at the job, I don't think so.

Ah water balloons and light saber fights... I do miss those, but the boys are grown up, one grown out, and no longer enjoy those(translation: I can't beat them at those anymore & they hit & throw harder than I can).

Not that having a daughter is less fun (its through you daughter that you get to experience why being a man is what men should be) - but despite some promising signs early on, those skills faded around 10 (translation: "Um Dad? I don't think I'm a boy.").

Happy passing on the genetic material day!

Good dads and sons being kids together are just so wonderful to witness. Uncommonly wonderful, these days.

Belated Happy Father's Day to all!
Someday Tristan and all of the raccoon kits will have an epiphany and realize how very blessed they are to have fathers in God's image. But until then, you guys will continue to be the fathers they need based on faith that you're doing the right thing.

Good fathering is harder than good mothering in an important way, IMHO. Mothers are created to take care of our kids and protect them, help them grow, etc. But fathers, I imagine, have to fight their nature to become good men, and then fight their nature some more not to get angry when the kids get in the way of their relationship with their wife, or when a rug rat puts a peanut butter and jelly sandwich in the cd drive, or when a little guy interrupts them while watching the Stanley Cup/NBA finals/Worls Series.

It's not easy, but it IS natural for mothers to leave their self-centeredness behind when they have their first baby. But I would imagine it's neither easy or natural for fathers to do so.

I understand what Bob means when he says it's expected that a father doesn't abandon his children. But I have seen bad fathers at close range, and that makes it hard to take a good man for granted.

In any case, if every day is Father's day, then I'm not late in wishing you guys all a happy Father's day!
Love
Mrs. G
