Worst. Apocalypse. Ever.

Anyone else feeling slightly apocalyptic this morning, what with the catastrophe off the gulf coast, the narrowly averted catastrophe in Times Square, and the coming entitlement catastrophe? Then I've got the perfect soundtrack for you. Might as well dance toward the dawn with death trailing behind while the whole sh*thouse goes up in flames!

To Gagdad re: Apocalypse Now

The last few days I have been thinking of Mel Gibson's "Apocalypto". Particularly the scene of the escaping man who tells his vision. This thought was very strong after the GDP numbers were released on Friday. A strong desire in me said "Sell in May and Walk Away". We have a man-boy at the helm and I sense no good will come of it. I sense a spear from heaven is headed straight towards my chest. I guess I am paranoid.

The real Apocolyptic indicator is that the NYT is calling GM out on their lies about paying back the TARP money.

Yep. I reckon it ain't paranoia if it's true.
It's been building for quite some time, and feels like it has an ominous life of it's own.

I mean, we ain't talkin' about garden variety demons here; this is principality and rulers of darkness kinda stuff headin' our way, and Obamao is gleefully ushering it in.
I believe Will calls it the "Quickening."
Best to be prepared.

As a comment I read last year said (can't recall the author's name):
"This is the worst apocalypse ever!"

Time to put on my dancin' shoes.

Ben, I'm going to steal that title!

Ben said "This is the worst apocalypse ever!"

Heh... gotta be rif'd from either Buffy the Vampire slayer or Napoleon Dynamite!

And... yep... or at the very least, fending off the urge to through your hands up in despair is getting harder and harder to do.

I've a feeling that's how it's felt in all the other apocalypes's, but, yeah, sure feels like "This is the worst apocalypse ever!"

Hmm... either wv is listening to Journey and saying don't stop believing... or it's pushing a new diet recommending we skip dinner.

I am glad I am not alone in my apocalyptic mood. Phew.

can there be a real apocalypse if 7 people bow down to this post, One COsmos? Can we not begin a new world with 8 people?
I agree w greyniffler that the evidence for today's Acpocoypticness is in the NYT article of 4/30 http://www.nytimes.com/2010/05/02/business/02gret.html?ref=businessGM

BTW, I used to post here as njcommuter, a moniker I use elsewhere (NOT related to the traffic web site of that name!). But since GB now wants a real ID of some sort, and since my Google ID is the HP-themed one, the secret is out: NJ Commuter is Grey Niffler.

I would prefer open commenting, but it ends up being an invitation to trolling and drive-by sniping.

For a more "reasoned" approach to the Apocalypse, I can recommend Coast to Coast -- they claim it won't really get rolling until late 2011, and then smack us hard in 2012.

So I think we can still breathe easy for awhile yet.

Gagdad Bob said...

Yes, I'm starting to wonder if Terence McKenna might have been correct after all about 2012....

Even if the Republicans get a huge victory in November, it will totally backfire and redound to Obama's benefit, because they either won't do what is necessary and take pliers and blowtorch to the federal government, or they will be depicted as bad guys if they do. It's a lose-lose-lose situation.

We are going to need some chicks.

odd wv: resesiz

BoomBaby said...

what makes you think some of us ain't chicks? ahem.
we could do it with ALL chicks, all hermaphrodites, or a mix of chicks and dudes.
I am reading the interesting book titled "The Red Queen" on why we (creatures) have sex and two genders. All chicks would work - but not for that long. So, agreed, we need a nice gender mix for conflict and consensus, forward movement and staying in the same place.

Well… I’m sure my 17 yr old will be relieved to learn that he’ll be able to graduate before all things come to a new ending.

Sheesh.

Tempting to throw my hands up… but not tempting enough… on with the fight I go.

Correct... that's one I won't become reconsiled with.

Ben: I wasn't in a place I could respond but your line that Bob used as the title made me laugh out loud. Thank you!

Trust Ben to say it best!

Must be something going around...
Beneath the dark cloud for the last few days, too.
Understand the desire to just walk away, but I fear being the horseshoe nail for want of which the whole thing was lost. 'Cause you never can tell who it might be that turns the tide.

I'm applying I Peter 1, in copious amounts.

The worst apocalypse's require the best grog.
Quality n' quantity.

'Cept fer Julie n' Mrs. NB of course. I will gladly drink their share 'till they are able to imbibe.

Skully, yer friendly neighborhood grogslinger.

Apocalyptic indicators: Crime is on the rise in parts of Texas. Cowboy has been burglarized twice in the past month. Just last week his and 10 other cars on his street in upscale Westlake were ransacked.

Be vigilant, be ready. Man your stations Raccoons.

Mizz E said...

Good advice Skully! Thankfully, Cowboy, who came to visit me yesterday in my not upscale Baptist Mayberry, where grog is not readily available, brought wine, beer and scotch.

Ugh, after reading recently about the worst totalitarian hell-hole on earth (N. Korea), and what people endure there, I couldn't help but catch a vision of how very bad it can get. Namely, as bad as it is... much, much worse.

"...while the whole sh*thouse goes up in flames!"

A direct quote from the man who wrote an even better anthem of apocalypse. (Yeah, I know the song is largely adolescent/melodramatic overkill, but I still intend to blast this one on the CD player when that Seventh Trumpet shakes the planet...)

Gagdad Bob said...

Good catch!

Gagdad Bob said...

How many readers would know that it's a metaphor for the cosmos?

Gagdad Bob said...

Good topic: anthems of the apocalypse.

I can think of several songs by the Jesus & Mary Chain that would do...

I see your Jesus & Mary Chain, and raise you a Quicksilver Messenger Service.

My wife was in Times Square until about 6:25 that night, as it turns out. She had planned a weekend with friends in the city for some time. We are only about 2 hours from the city yet average maybe 1 trip there every couple of years. I was not with her, but being "so close" to the "almost", I'm not sure what to make of it...What to make of it with cooneyes, maybe is what I mean.

Rick said...

I don't want to, but I have to in this case rule out that she is SuperGirl, because it is a fact that she and her friends were planning the trip for some time. As I said. In other words, it wasn't just like in the middle of supper she says, "Honey, I have to go. BRB."

Jack said...

It will be interesting to see how this Times Square scenario plays out. I have an uneasy feeling about it either way--besides the fact that some nutjob tried to set off a bomb in Times Square that is. Which is disturbing enough.

But on the chance it is "home-grown" one can expect a rabid media circus of anti-tea party insanity. This will be taken as "proof" regardless of who actually did it, as the right creating an "environment" for this type of violent behavior.

Of course if it is islamic terrorist inspired, we will be cautioned to remain calm and that this is only a "one-off" event.

May you live in interesting times.

Ricky, speaking of which, Retriever (who comments here on occasion) was there that night, too.

Thank God the bomber was too stupid to use the right kind of fertilizer.

Unless, of course, some kind of SuperGirl managed to switch out the fertilizer when he wasn't looking...

Julie,
That's sounds just like something she would do.
